Qatayef |
Qatayef is a pie that can be eaten raw or fried with various fillings. It is considered one of the famous sweets in Egypt and the Levant during the month of Ramadan. It consists of baked liquid dough, and can be filled with nuts such as almonds and hazelnuts, or with cream or cheese. It can be fried or fried after being stuffed, and it is made in the shape of a crescent in reference to the crescent of the month of Ramadan.
the components:
2 cups flour
1 teaspoon instant yeast
1 teaspoon sugar
1/4 teaspoon salt
1 cup warm water
1/4 cup vegetable oil
Qatayef filling:
1 cup chopped walnuts
1/2 cup sugar
1 teaspoon cinnamon
1/2 cup cream
How to prepare:
In a large bowl, mix flour, yeast, sugar, and salt.
Add warm water and oil, and knead the ingredients until a smooth dough forms.
Cover the dough and let it rest for an hour.
At preparation time, mix the Qatayef filling: Mix the chopped walnuts with sugar and cinnamon.
Divide the dough into small balls and spread each ball on a floured surface.
Place a spoonful of the walnut filling in the middle of each cat and bend it into a crescent shape.
Heat a wide frying pan over medium heat, and fry the qatayef until it turns golden on both sides.
Serve qatayef hot with syrup or honey.
